Security

Vilnius is on the list of the safest European cities. In the Center of the town there are police departments, which are always visible and able to help with every problem. The police patrol is more rare in the big districts surrounding the downtown. Yet, like in every big city, one has to pay attention to pickpockets– especially in the public transport means.

Time

Lithuanian time is connected to GMT + 2 hours. There is no change to winter and summer time in Lithuania.

Border

Arriving to Lithuania from the West (through Poland) you will encounter two border passages: in Ogrodniki (cars and coaches) or in Kalwaria (trucks, cars and coaches). Border passages are adapted to European standards; this is why the time of check-in as well as the customs clearance is quite short. In order to cross the border you will need a valid passport, which enables you to reside in Lithuania as tourist for the period of 90 days.

Travelling to Lithuania by your own car insurance is necessary (green card). The price of the insurance is approximately 20 Euro for the two weeks period. If you have the green card to other countries of the East and Central Europe you receive the discount of 50%. The insurance card can be purchased at the border passages.
